Simon Pegg is not French, nor is Toni Collette,or Rosamund Pike but the trio tops the cast of the film adaptation of the French novel, Hector and the Search for Happiness (Le Voyage d'Hector ou la recherche du bonheur) from French psychiatrist Francois Lelord. BTW, the two women also headline next year's The Long Way Down based on Nick Hornby's novel of the same name. Jean Reno is the only true Frenchman in the cast (among the major players anyway) - the French Moroccan-born actor hails from Casablanca, and keeps homes in Paris and L.A. The cast also includes classy Canadian star Christopher Plummer as a UCLA-based shrink who heads up the Happiness Project and Stellan Skarsgard as Edward, a wealthy and jaded banker Hector meets on a plane.

I first blogged about Hector and the Search for Happiness for the Dreaming of France meme back in April; I'm back again for the French-themed meme with some production photos from the film which wrapped principal photography last month. They started shooting in Vancouver, Canada and moved on from there; Hector has been transformed into a Brit living in London, so it's possible the show won't even make it to France! I'll let you know if I hear differently.
Pegg plays Hector, the psychiatrist who decides since he has no idea how to help his clients find happiness, that he will search the world for the key to that ever elusive state. Ms. Collette plays Hector's former girlfriend while it appears Rosamund Pike is the woman he meets on his journey. Unless it's the other way around!
