I'm posting this picture of my son Russell as part of Alyce's Saturday Snapshot meme over on her At Home with Books site. To participate, post a picture that you or someone you know took and add your link to Alyce's Mr. Linky.
Notice that Russell is standing under a street sign that says Russell? When he was little and we saw a Russell street sign I would always try to take a picture. Just one of those silly things we parents do.
I took this picture at 4a.m. Friday morning after my husband and I had picked him up at Union Station in Los Angeles. He was returning to L.A. after a few days visiting a friend up in Klamath, Ca. It was a very long trip took - a six hour train ride plus two buses - I think it was 16 hours in total. LONG!
He loved the train portion of the trip - it goes along the California coast - but he said the bus trip portion was filled with sad looking people. He said it reminded him of Bukowski and Fitzgerald. I think he said it was Bukowski who said no one rides the bus if they have any other choice. I love that he had this experience; I know the people that he saw and spoke to, people he might not otherwise have been exposed to, are now part of him, and will add to his insight and his empathy. All good stuff for my writer/director son.
After we picked him up, we ate at Fred 62, a really marvellous open all hours restaurant located at the corner of Russell and Vermont in trendy Los Feliz. Delish!
